Anton Scavone is a passionate North Melbourne Kangaroos fan and this Sunday he will be running onto Blundstone Arena, alongside his heroes as they take on the GWS GIANTS. But first, Anton will be emulating his idols at Lend a Hand to Hugo’s first All Abilities AFL Auskick session of 2019.
Anton is an inaugural member of Lend a Hand to Hugo’s Auskick program, where each Sunday morning throughout July and August, under the guidance of LAHTH’s passionate volunteer crew, ‘Hugo Heroes’, he would partake in a football skills session built around the various needs of the participants. As well as honing his football skills in the winter, Anton also joined in LAHTH’s All Abilities Woolworths Cricket Blast in the summer.
In this supportive and fun environment, Anton flourished, often mimicking the famous set shot goal kicking routine of Lend a Hand to Hugo Ambassador and North Melbourne superstar, Ben Brown.
After seeing vision of Anton re-enacting his goal kicking routine, Ben was eager to offer the youngster a once in a lifetime opportunity. So when Anton received a FaceTime call from Ben after school last week, he did just that. After talking to Anton about his football and his support for the Kangaroos, Ben asked Anton if he would like to run out with his heroes on Sunday. Of course he accepted the amazing offer and will this afternoon be leading ‘the Roos’ onto the hallowed turf of Blundstone Arena.
Lend a Hand to Hugo Founder, Luke Williams says opportunities like this are a testament to Ben as an ambassador of the charity. “Ben is a great person and a sensational ambassador of our cause, and for him to offer an opportunity such as this, to Anton, one of our amazing kids in our footy program, is just awesome!” He said. “Every week Anton would copy Ben’s routine, and we thought it was just great and such an awesome coincidence that Ben is an ambassador.”
